Why startup companies?

Using information from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Research Data Centers, the Kauffman Foundation found that for all but seven years between 1977 and 2005, existing companies were net job destroyers, losing about 1 million jobs a year, combined. In stark contract, startup companies added about 3 million jobs a year.
