Announcing the Winners of the Cottage Grove Business Challenge

Cottage Grove was buzzing with activity Last Wednesday, October 25th, as nearly 100 business owners, mentors and community partners came together to celebrate entrepreneurship at the Cottage Grove Business Challenge Gala.  $10,000 in prize money was awarded to the three top finishers in the challenge that attracted 24 applicants. The challenge was a joint venture initiated by Harold Frazier from New Breed Seed and organized in partnership with the Cottage Grove CDC, Chamber of Commerce, and RAIN Eugene.

Sanity Chocolate (Mike Caven) took first place, a $6,000 prize. They are expanding their operation, bringing high-quality chocolate to downtown Cottage Grove.

Sohr Performance + Nutrition (Joey Jaraczewski –, with three varieties of plant-based athletic recovery beverages, took second place at $3,000. They are in the process of moving their manufacturing operation to Cottage Grove and scaling production.

Real Live Food Oregon (Kim Johnson –, a brand growing in familiarity in Oregon communities along I-5, took third place, a $1,000 prize. Prize money will be used to purchase equipment necessary to expand their production facilities in Cottage Grove.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks to all applicants and sponsors for making this year’s challenge a success. This year’s event has paved the way for community leaders to recognize this as an effective model for activating local entrepreneurship in emerging areas.
